Rev. Ayanna Carter

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., she received her foundational education at Georgetown Day School and Calvin Coolidge Senior High School.  She went on to Hiram College, in Ohio, where she matriculated in 1973 with a baccalaureate degree in Education.

Her career in teaching commenced during her senior year of college when her student teaching assignment became a full-time job at Shalom School in Shaker Heights, Ohio. There she was responsible for developing and implementing the pre-k and kindergarten mathematics curriculum.  She then returned to Washington, D.C..  As an educator she taught at Georgetown Day School (4 yrs), the University of the District of Columbia (11 yrs), Washington Christian Academy (18 yrs), and is presently the Middle School Team Leader and Mathematics teacher at Montrose Christian School.

Though raised by Godly parents and very involved in church activities all the way through high school, her eyes and heart were not opened to the saving grace of Jesus Christ until she was thirty years old.  Since then, her love for her Savior and Lord and for His Word has grown continually.  In His church she has served as a Sunday School teacher and coordinator, nursery worker and coordinator, women’s ministry leader, and Vacation Bible School director.

Called into ministry in 2000, she was ordained an elder in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, and serves as a Local Elder at Israel Metropolitan CME Church in Washington, D.C.  At this time, the Lord has her ministering primarily to youth and to members who are hospitalized.

It is not by accident that both her vocation and ministry are expressions of her calling.

Rev. Carter is a wife, a mother of three, the grandmother of three, and the spiritual mother to many.

It is her desire to serve God in all areas of her life at all times.  Some of her greatest joys are praising God, watching God, and sleeping.

Key verse: “Be still and know that I am God.”   Ps. 46:10
