Sis. Kim Burton

Kim Elizabeth Burton is a 4th generation Washingtonian who attended 8 years of Christian schooling before attending DC Public School where she earned her High School Diploma from Woodrow Wilson Senior High School.  She continued her education by earning a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Communications from Mercer University located in Macon, Georgia, where she met her husband Darryl. Many years later, she earned a Master Degree in Network and Communcations Management from Keller Graduate School of Management..  Just recently, she finished study and earned a Certificate of Theology from Interdenominational Theology Center (ITC)

After graduating from college and returning to Washington, she secured a position with Bell Atlantic as an operator.  Shortly thereafter, she and Darryl were married.  She held several associate and management positions with the current Verizon Communications Company.  Her career ended with Verizon in 2006.  She currently works for Towne Park LLC, where she is an Assistant Account Manager.

Although as a child Kim had dreams of both being married to a preacher and being in ministry, as life happened, those dreams seemed to have been ”dreams forgotten”.  It turns out that those dreams were only  ”dreams delayed”.  Several years after her husband was called and ordained, she accepted her call to ministry in December 2008.  She still marvels at the timing and awesomeness of God concerning her living.  She has a heart for God and God’s people both the saved and the unsaved.  She desires to live and speak the truths of the love of God everyday.  She discovered that she has a love for teaching by accident as a result of a brief period as a contractor where she traveled on assignment teaching adults .

Kim and Darryl were married in 1986 and joined Israel shortly thereafter.  Since that time she has been active in many areas of ministry.  They include Stewardess Board, Missionary Society, Sunday School, Bible Study, Board of Evangelism and Board of Chrustian Education.  She served as president of the Young Adult Counsel and has attended several District, Annual and conference both as delegate and youth chaperone. She served as Minister of Music from 1994 to 1998.

Kim and Darryl are the proud parents of Ambrial, Darryl Jr, and Arron Burton.  Kim’s mother Geraldine Barnes, grandfather James Swann along with several other aunts, uncles and cousins (Underwood) also worship and serve at Israel Metropolitan CME Church.  She feels especially blessed to be able to worship with both blood and spiritual family and cannot image what this life would be like without either.
